The B Corp recertification process - simplified
B Corp recertification used to be required every three years. Now, there are increased impact requirements after 3 years with a smaller audit, and a full 5 year audit, with higher still requirements.
With V2, the standards have been updated and strengthened. The bar is higher, the expectations are broader, and businesses that have not kept pace with their impact commitments will find recertification significantly harder.
The good news: with the right support in place, increasing the positive impact of your businesses is an exciting and rewarding experience.
Flourish is built to make this a reality. Rather than preparing for recertification in a rush when the three-year mark approaches, you will be steadily but continuously improving. This means that when the time comes, you are ready.

Frequently asked questions about B Corp recertification

No! Because scores are a thing of the past. With V2 there are minimum standards that must be met across each of the 7 impact areas, rather than the multiple-choice options that were in the ‘old’ standards.
Now, between certification cycles there are increased impact requirements at year 3 and year 5 – these must be met in order to maintain your certification.

You need to provide evidence for each impact topic, but exactly what is required depends on your size and sector, as this is what determines your requirements. For example, a medium size service business will have some different requirements to a medium size manufacturing company.
The benefit of Flourish is that you will be building and maintaining this evidence base continuously, so there will be no scramble when recertification approaches.

The recertification process will likely take a couple of months from submitting your B Impact™ assessment to receiving your certification. The verification process is now done by third party assessors – this can be fully explained in a call if you wish.

B Corp recertification is required after 3 and 5 years, with increased evidence requirements each time. Flourish is structured around this cycle, supporting you from the point of certification through to your recertification submission and beyond.

In some ways it is similar - you complete an updated B Impact Assessment, submit evidence, and go through a verification process. But the context is different: the standards have evolved under V2 and there are now 7 impact areas, and evidence needs to be provided for each requirement.
The verification process itself has changed, as it is now completed by a third party - bringing B Corp in line with other certifications.
Having ongoing support through Flourish means approaching V2 as the natural extension of your initial B Corp certification.
